I was sorting thought some of my old stuff and i came across this, its a little thing i wrote nearly 9 years ago. I think I didn't quite hit the point I was trying to make back then but I was suprised that I made that much sense at a young age!

Science Vs Religion...

Yes it my rantings about one of my favourite subjects but as I have been debating this with a few friends over the last few days what better subject to put on here!

Well this science vs. Religion battle must have been going on for 100's of years. My debate started with the fact that I may believe gods exist (in some form) but that does not mean I have to believe in them myself and it turned into a full blown God vs. Physics debate. My thoughts on this matter follow (and I will avoid putting the thoughts of the others involved, as they are not here to verify them).

Evolution vs. Adam & eve - Life will start however it possibly can to think that humans were 'placed' on the earth I find had to believe. We have enough to tell us that other life forms on this planet are VERY similar to our own (as per my Bonobo Chimp article) The theory of evolution is a very strong one. Some may find it hard to imagine we came from the same line as apes & chimps, but is this really that hard to believe. We share so many characteristics, a very similar DNA profile yet Man managed to gain a very healthy brain size advantage (if you'd call it that). Some may say this is cause by Gods intervention others say it was because Humans evolved near the coast and seafood is very good 'Brain food'. I say it was all down to chance, we for some reason or other developed a bigger brain whereas other lines didn’t...

Fate vs. Chance - Another area that raised debate... some feel that what ever happens is for a cause and it is 'controlled' by the greater power (God), Science may argue that things happen because the 'Laws of the universe' make them happen. If I dealt 100 pairs of cards in a Pontoon game some would most definitely be 'Pontoon' (score 21), many would not. But the chance of getting either is the same for every pair, yes lower scoring pairs are more likely because there are more of them but that’s why the game is played. But most people would think themselves lucky to have scored so high, or 'Fate' is shining on them... But in essence the odds are even to whatever 2 cards are selected. So did the chance of nature or the fate of a greater power make the human line?

Big Bang vs. Creation - The beginning of time and the start of our known universe, now this is where it started getting a little tricky. From the evidence we have the universe is expanding, therefore it started somewhere. A place where time began & all things come from infinite things from a tiny area within space. Now from what I heard from the various branches of religion that I was talking to, the 'Big Bang' (if that is what started the universe) was created by a God (which ever one you believe in). Now all of my discussion I was being told that scientists, which is the label they gave me, always have to prove something before believing it. It is at this point that I was asked what existed before the 'Big Bang’, my answer was simple.... "Why does anything have to exist before?" the answer I got was something cannot come from nothing. But if you truly believe that God created everything and he/she/it is the be all and end all, then surely God can create something from nothing.

So isn’t Science simply the same thing as religion, a means of explanation, its just science has no rules and no face. I do not differentiate between the two anymore to me the laws of Physics and the manner of God are one and the same, just with two different labels. Don’t get me wrong I do not feel I have to believe in anyone but myself, but to those who do believe in God and yet oppose science, are not looking at the whole picture.

The truth now ... may not be the same as the truth in the future

Quote! "There can never be a conflict between true science and true religion, because they both describe reality."

Well just a quickie tonight.... I am typing up my blurb about Science vs Religion, so be prepared to be bored.

One little thing i noticed today, STI's Sexually transmitted Infections. No i havent got one but i do wonder why the name changes every so often STI's used to be STD's and before that VD?! Now maybe they just figured out that calling them a Disease wasn't scientifically correct or maybe its a publicity stunt, after all if no one knows what its called then few will be able to get hold of them!

If I think, and therefore I am, am I just a thought?

I dont know if I'm the only one, probably not, but I have often wondered if this being alive thing is infact just a thought or dream. Maybe I'm just in a Virtual Reality world, in which Virtual Reality is just being inverted. I suppose thats very 'Matrix' like.

Anyways back to the insane things i find. You know how bubble wrap is damn addictive, the true 'Once you pop you just can't stop' item. Well the good old internet comes to the 'poppers' rescue, a bleeding site where you can pop cyber bubble wrap?! And I thought I was a little wierd!

Did you know that chimp's have only a 1.6% difference in their DNA to humans. That explains a lot, I always wondered about some people I have met!

Well, its all over the place - Global warming this , ozone layer that ... I Know we have made a large impact on the Earth as a whole but we really are not that significant. The Earth as we know it has been around millions of years and as far as we can tell it has changed dramatically on many occasions. Take the last know Ice Age, Humans were but a speck on the land then - No cars , No factories or other pollution, but the Earths climate changed. The Dinosaurs died out, maybe an asteroid or meteorite maybe just bad luck, but Humans wern't there!
Lets face it we can do a lot to ease the pollution we may even kill off what is known life today, but Life will continue it always has and i'm sure it always will. But we are not the cause for changes in the environment, Nature is and we stand very little chance of beating her...

Ok I've had yet another idea and who knows if it will be popular. I have created a new section in GL4's message board just for Nogginism, all the subjects I feel are worth opening to debate or discussion I'll will put onto the forum so you can respond.

So here goes;

Quote! 'People start out believing in a God and end up believing in the structure of religion'

In my opinion a very good statement, Gods have to exist because so many believe in them, maybe not in any physical form... ok...compare it to language, this exists purely because people use it, but it in essence it's nothing. Religion on the other hand seems to have taken over, is the God still a necessity?

Kefalonia, what a lovely place it has once more confirmed my future plans of buying and living in that part of the world, truly stunning . The apartment was, well... Let me say small, but what more do you need but somewhere to eat, sleep and shower. That last necessity was the one thing I had my problem with, we didn't have what I and most would call a 'shower' more like a hose from the wall with a shower head attached! Picture but a small price to pay for a week in paradise.

Like so many other holiday goers and much to my surprise I fitted into the 'oh so predictable-I read on holiday' category. In a last minute attempt to equip myself with a few interesting paperbacks to pass the time, I came across the complete set of Tolkien's Hobbit, Lord of the Rings & Similiaran. Yes although I've read them all a few times and probably have copies of each hidden in many places around my flat, this set was in a very appealing matte black. The other choice I had was from an author I'd heard a little about but never actually read - Terry Pratchett. Knowing that he has a whole string of novels , I was keen to try and start at the begining of it all. After 10 minutes of trying to figure out what book came first I gave up and opted for the 'get my moneys worth' approach , so I just picked up the thickest 2!
